Performance led vocal coaching

Christie Valeriano (MM, PAVA) is expert performance led vocal coach and combines her understanding of the latest principles in voice science with her deep background in classical bel canto pedagogy.  This combination of experience gives her a unique ability to combine the technical principles of classical music with the latest voice science and to help her students navigate the demands of all musical styles.

Her clients include performers from the West End, film/TV actors, and recording industry professionals.  She currently teaches on the degree programmes at Arts Ed and Mountview Theatre school and is a frequent guest teacher at various West End Training programmes throughout London.  She is a regular teacher on the Nazareth College study abroad programme in London through West End on Demand

Christie is a passionate technician and has presented research at the 10th Global Estill Symposium and the Voice Foundation 51st Anniversary Symposium.  This research was subsequently published in the VASTA Voice and Speech Review under the title “Six-Week Soprano to Mix-Belt Estill Training Program: A Case Study in Coaching Challenges” in January 2022.  She has also led and developed her own courses on belting and has been a featured instructor on the Sing Space music theatre collaborative platform, where she led an 8 week course on belting for more than 200 registered participants.  She is currently a regular volunteer at the NHS specialist voice clinic in the The Voice Disorders Unit at University Hospital Lewisham, and is a recognised provider of the LMRVT resonant voice protocol, which she uses in her work with elite performers.

Christie has experience as a TV and film vocal coach and music supervisor and worked as a deputy vocal coach for Endemol/Shine in Altogether Now (season 2) and as Head of Music for the EMEA region of the sports broadcaster ESPN.

Christie trained at the prestigious Boston University Opera Institute and her professional opera credits include appearances with the Santa Fe Opera, the Utah Opera, the Boston Lyric Opera among others.  She was a two-time regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Council Young Artist auditions.  Christie also worked in musical theatre in New York, where she participated in equity readings at the BMI Lehman Engel Music theatre workshop, at NYU Tish School for the Arts and in Craig Carnelia’s professional music theatre workshop.  She also has experience in a studio environment, where she works as an occasional sessional vocalist, and her vocals have appeared on Alt-J’s latest album (Atlantic Records), on ESPN’s channel idents, and a Smithsonian documentary.

She has a Masters in Music from Boston University and a Bachelors of Music from Wheaton Conservatory of Music (Wheaton, IL) where she graduated with honors.
